Last time we covered all the pre-smartphone era phones that I lost or broke. This time we cover the phones which were relatively costlier and more heartbreaking to lose.
This phone was and still is one my best phones. The year was 2012 and by now blackberry and smartphones had entered the market. Yet, my parents hardly trusted me to buy me one. I had to shell out around half the phone’s cost to make sure that I get a decent phone. I bought the Nokia X2-01 qwerty phone which supported Whatsapp among other features like PDF reader and Microsoft office reader. I used this phone like gold and used it until I got my hands on a smartphone. This phone is still working (Its Nokia, no surprise there) and being used by my aunt as we speak.
Yes it was 2014 when I finally got my own smartphone. The world was already into their 2nd or 3rd smartphone while I was still getting acquainted with my first. It was a MOTO-G phone worth around 12k which was 4 times the value of my first with all supreme features from Android OS to Wi-fi connectivity. But, guess what happened next. Yes, you are right, I LOST it.
I was in my college, getting ready for one of regular guest lectures and I needed to change into something formal. I kept the phone out in the changing room and forgot to take it with me when I left. I went in there after 5 mins to find that it was already stolen. I was distraught and even though my friends helped me search for it the whole evening, we couldnt find it. I lodged a police complaint for my loss but as they say the damage was already done.
This time I was very desperate for a phone because I was doing my Management degree and couldn’t imagine life without a phone. So, after a few days with an old substitute , I borrowed some money from my dearest friend and bought MOTO-G 2. Yes, this one was better than the first and came with more internal memory and space to add external too. I was so protective of this phone that I used another one for listening to music and answering calls.
But, this proved to be a disaster as once when I was travelling home from college in an auto rickshaw listening to music on my cheaper phone, I forgot that I had taken the smartphone out for browsing something on the net. I forgot the fact that it was not in my pocket or my bag and I am pretty sure you will relate to this. When you are listening to music, you know you have your phone in your pocket and don’t feel the need to panic. But,in my case, I was listening to music through my other phone and the Moto-G 2 was on the seat of the auto. As soon as I entered my house, it struck me that i had left my phone in that vehicle. I ran like my life was at stake. But, like it always happens, the driver took the phone and switched it off and made sure I couldn’t contact him.
This was the worst possible scenario of losing a phone because I had borrowed money from a friend for buying the phone and now, I had lost it and I had a 12k debt over my head with no means of paying it. Now, I was tired of owning and carrying a phone and so, I found an application that works as an Android device and installed it on my PC. This went for 3 months and I started loving the peace that I never got with a smartphone.
Now, we come to last year, April 2015. I had fnished my first year in Management studies and was heading for a 2 month internship in a real estate firm. The work i was going to be involved with was a sales one, so going there without a phone would be pointless. (You know where this is heading)
I bought a new phone thanks to funds granted(on loan) by my mom. I had to repay this amount once i get aid in my internship. This phone was a not very well known, cheap (price) and well endowed (you and your dirty mind *wink*) phone which I still possess. It was a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4g with 13mp Camera and a 2gb RAM.It worked like a charm for a year and as we speak it just got a little dented and I have given it for repair. Of all phones I have used, this one was the most awesome and special phone for me as it was the phone I bought through my first salary. I hope this one stands the test of time because i have had my fair share of lessons from losing or breaking phones.
For the ones who know my contact no., do ping me with your opinion and stories about your lost and broken phones and I hope my phone gets repaired within time to reply to your stories.
